Our seminar schedule this fall has a “back to school” flavor.
Our first program of the new “school year” – “Back to School: ACC’s Annual Update of Critical Developments” – was sponsored by Foley Hoag LLP. Our second program was entitled “Corporate Counsel in the Crosshairs” and held Sept. 28 at Hasbro in Pawtucket, RI.
In October, we have scheduled an international program sponsored by Greenberg Traurig LLP. In November, we will be back to school again by offering our ever-popular mini-MBA program, this year entitled, “Business Skills for Lawyers: Negotiation, Analysis and Strategic Implications of a Merger.” Conducted jointly by platinum sponsor Ropes & Gray and by Boston University School of Management, the program has been completely revamped with completely new content.
This program has been very highly regarded and attended in the past two years, so sign up early!
We cannot let the summer pass, however, without mention of our “Jeopardy” program, given in July by one of our gold sponsors, Goulston & Storrs. While highly substantive, this program was also one of our most entertaining programs ever!
The Jeopardy format was closely followed, right down to the music played while answers were being formulated. The two opposing teams clearly had their comedy hats on that night, and at the end, oddly enough, the evening ended in a tie. It was an unforgettable program, and we are hoping to repeat it next year.
The Northeast Chapter will also be offering our first webinar this fall. The “Annual Update” program at Foley Hoag was recorded, and will be paired with the program presentations, and posted on the chapter website for members who are not able to travel to the program. It is our hope that we can service members in western Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont more effectively in this way.
The Chapter is growing (851 members at last count). Our board of directors is strong and active, and we are working hard to develop more pro bono and advocacy initiatives for the upcoming year, in order to give back to the communities in which we work and live.
William O’Brien, corporate counsel at Hewlett-Packard, is president of the Northeast Chapter of the Association of Corporate Counsel.
